Brian Eno Encourages Support to Send Palestinian Solidarity Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.

A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the Christmas number one spot. The project aims to send support to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.

An Opportunity for Unity and an "Chart Upset"

Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.

“That would be amazing if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”

Defiant Message of Dignity and Freedom

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's powerful central theme.

“The song holds a deeply meaningful spot for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “The message is that I would choose to perish with honor than exist without freedom. That is the core idea of the song; we seek to lead a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”

Recording Origins and Featured Artists

The track was produced in the wake of a major charity concert held in September. Initially planned to be captured during the live event, the piece was omitted from the lengthy event due to scheduling overruns.

The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which managed to collect a substantial amount for charitable causes.

Creation and Launch

Lullaby was crafted by a group of producers and composers. The single showcases a mix of the traditional Arabic lyrics with contemporary English verses.

The organizers behind the initiative have stated that their objective is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an non-profit partner.

“We haven't set a rigid aim,” a figure commented. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Obviously, the greater the amount, the better. All proceeds are directed out to the people of Gaza.”

The situation in the area was described as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings described as in ruins or severely impacted.

“Given that reality, a few million won't make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is above all making this cause better known and showing there’s another side to the story.”

The single 'Lullaby' is launching this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a digital service from the 19th of December.
