Ireland started turning out for the team during preseason this summer through good mate and present team player Blake Norton, and the former Irish midfielder then asked additional ex-pros, who all compete in a midweek small-sided game, to join in.

"We literally haven't ceased talking about it - I was calling my mum and sibling on the journey home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the match - it was like facing a group of normal fellas.

"Now we are eager for the second fixture."
