Citizens have gathered around the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-led assault on October 7th, 2023, as negotiations continued in Egypt over an end to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.

The attack saw in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as hostages. It was the single most fatal day for Jewish people since the Holocaust.

Israel answered by initiating a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"Our violent adversaries have struck forcefully, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu stated on that day.

He also vowed to "realize all the goals of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas government and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer pose a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership delayed state remembrance events until mid-October - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still took place across the country on Tuesday.

A memorial ceremony for the loved ones of Israeli citizens who lost their lives in the Hamas assault was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised across Israeli broadcast stations.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Negotiation Meetings in Egypt

Meanwhile, both sides' delegations met in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of mediated discussions to review the terms of the plan.

A high-ranking delegate knowledgeable about the negotiations revealed that an late session of indirect talks started at evening in Egypt.

The source said the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, amid differences over the suggested Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "tough and have not yet produce any real breakthrough," but mentioned that intermediaries are making efforts to reduce the differences between the two sides.

Essential Matters in Discussions

  • An enduring ceasefire
  • The swap of the prisoners still held by Hamas for detainees from Gaza
  • The pullout of troops from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid provision
  • Future governance of the region

Citizen Feeling

In the city's memorial area that day, 29-year-old a woman - whose family member survived the incident on the outdoor event, where hundreds were murdered and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place feels like home any longer and until all the hostages return not a single person will be secure."

"When we see everyone home returned, we can relax anew. Then we can begin to rebuild," she continued.

Near Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's home in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel reports nearly fifty remain in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be living.

Activist one woman stated: "We need do every compromise necessary for the captives to return. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now regularly indicate that approximately seventy percent of Israelis want the conflict to conclude in return for the freedom of the hostages.

Palestinian Circumstances

At the area of Nova festival, those paying respects gathered to pay their respects.

From that location, the boom of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses reported the intense Israeli bombardment persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were reported in the early hours of that day in the west side district, sector and locality districts and in the east side area of the community, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"When the evening arrives, the fear appears with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing earlier, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the attacks. During nighttime we are lying together, embracing, notably my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we monitor the reports to see developments. And I'm afraid that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Health Emergency

The medical facility in the urban area announced it had received the bodies of several people by the midday, including several killed in an Israeli bombing in the southern district.

Another medical facility in the southern city of Khan Younis said another two fatalities had been transported. A person was killed by Israeli forces while seeking help to the south region, health workers reported.

The territory's health ministry said a significant number of the {territ
